Prep Teaching and Learning
Play is child’s work
The Curriculum is based on the NESA (NSW Educational Standards Authority) Curriculum set out for Early Stage One within a play-based learning philosophy. Click here to view the curriculum standards.
The six key learning areas are:

- History/ Geograpy
- PDHPE (Personal Health and Physical Education)
- Creative Arts which is taught through integrated activities.
As part of the MVAC experience, Prep has access to the expertise of teachers in the additional specialist areas including music, sport, College Library Services, drama and computing.
Our students have access to support services and assessment for early learning needs if needed.
Days are broken into free-choice activities both indoor and outdoor, large group time, crunch and sip, recess and lunch, and specialist teacher time.
Free Choice Activities
Free choice activities are designed to develop skills such as:
- Eye-hand coordination
- Fine motor and pre-writing skills

Large Group time
In large group time teachers work with children as a large group. Activities such as music and movement, language discussions, pre-reading and pre-writing activities, stories, drama and finger play.
The children learn to listen, think and respond accordingly. They learn to take turns and function as a group, with the aim to adopt respect for each other.
